The Courage to Endure: Have an Amazing Faith like Job

Are you living with courage? The word God gave me for 2022 is endurance. I’ll admit, I was not sure what to do with the word at first. I even considered perseverance, but God kept bringing me back to “endurance.”The Courage to Endure: Have an Amazing Faith like Job

So, after doing some research, I was hoping to embrace the word  God had given me. There was apprehension because my initial thought was, what will I have to endure? However, I’ve been clinging to these definitions of endurance the first couple of months of the year.

They are “staying power” and “lastingness.”  It was these words that encouraged my heart to lean repeatedly into God’s arms because I trust Him. They also reminded me of a scripture verse that my best friend sent years ago that I have tucked in my daily bible.

And let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9.The Courage to Endure: Have an Amazing Faith like Job

The above is how I have memorized this verse. But take a look at the NLT version for some additional inspiration. So let’s not get tired of doing good. At just the right time, we will reap a harvest of blessings if we do not give up. Gal. 6:9 (NLT)

It all comes back to that “staying power,” right? Not giving up is not an option, period. So, let me ask you this. Is there something or some things you have given up on already this year?

Courage is Challenging

At the beginning of this post, I asked if you live with courage? So let me clarify something for you. Living courageously does not mean you have no fear. However, courageous living means moving forward despite your fears. It is not easy to do for sure. If you choose not to rely on the power of the Holy Spirit within you, you will struggle to live this way. With that in mind, When you face your fears with courage and overcome what you are facing, there is no better joy!

Here are a few words to encourage you when thinking about courage. I hope you will tuck them away somewhere in your mind and remember to live this way for the rest of the year and beyond. Gritty. Determined. Tenacious. Brave.

Courage Requires Faith

I’m not sure what word God has given you for 2022. But here are a few I’ve heard or read about from fellow believers this year. Wait. Perseverance. Resilence. Endurance. Stay. I know there are so many more. But answer me this question. Can you embrace any of these words without faith?

Here me when I say this. It takes tremendous courage to have the conviction to take God at His word and BELIEVE HIM. Click To Tweet

Look at the unwavering faith that Job had despite everything that had ravaged his life. The Courage to Endure: Have an Amazing Faith like Job

But He knows the way that I take; when He has tried me, I shall come out as gold. Job 23:10.

Job had faith that regardless of the unbelievable things he was facing, God had a divine purpose in it all.

The Job answered the LORD and said; ” I know that You can do all things, and that no purpose of Yours can be thrawrted.” Job 42:1-2.

Benefits of Courageous Living

So, as a result of the spiritual battle in heaven between God and the devil, Job lost everything. His immense wealth,  all his livestock, and all but a few servants. What’s even worse, Job lost the support of his wife as she implored him to curse God and die! (Job 2:9) Job’s health deteriorated when God allowed Satan to affect his health adversely. He had “loathsome” boils covering him from head to toe!

Despite the pain and hurt Job felt, he continued to live with courage. His faith in God had not wavered, and he did not sin with his lips. (Job 2:10)

With this in mind, how can we apply the story of Job to our lives today? What are the benefits of living courageously and enduring the challenges and tests we encounter?

Here are just a few benefits of choosing to endure with courage.

Stronger Faith. Once you commit yourself to having “staying power,” your faith in God becomes more potent and is a reflection of His working in your life.

Living Witness. Just like Job was to his wife and “friends,” you too can be a Christlike example for others in times of adversity and uncertainty.

Deeper Relationship with God. When God brings you through the fire and the storms, you cannot help but fall deeper in love with Him as you recognize His grace and realize his tremendous power and love.

Impeccable Character. Look at some of the words that define character. Temperament. Disposition. Nature. Personality. Enduring with courage develops your character. It transforms how you carry yourself in every situation. The Courage to Endure: Have an Amazing Faith like Job

God is Faithful

Finally, two more incredible benefits of living with courage involve basking in the faithfulness of God.

Experience God’s Blessings and Realize His Promises. This statement is not a “prosperity gospel” statement. But when you humble yourself and seek to live courageously in bringing glory to God, you will be blessed. The spiritual blessings of experiencing God’s incredible peace, His indescribable joy, and His immeasurable love. And if that is not enough, He may shower you with His amazing grace and bless you with His infallible wisdom.

Look at what happened to Job after all his loss, pain, and suffering.

And the LORD restored the fortunes of Job when he had prayed for his friends. The LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. And the LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning. And he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, and 1,000 female donkeys. He also had seven sons and three daughters… And in all the land, there were no women so beautiful as Job’s daughters. Job 42:10-15.

Friend. I’m not sure where your mind and heart are at the point in the New Year. But I want to challenge and encourage you to choose to endure with courage like Job. There is still a lot of time for God to accomplish His will and purpose for you this year, but you got to have FAITH.

As I mentioned, it will probably not be easy. Nothing worthwhile usually is. However, if you focus on what you KNOW and BELIEVE instead of relying solely on your feelings, you can move forward. I hope the scripture image below encourages your heart. The Courage to Endure: Have an Amazing Faith Like Job

So, how about it? Are you ready for some courageous living? You are NEVER ALONE on the journey. Choose to ENDURE with COURAGE, and watch GOD WORK in YOUR LIFE!

Enduring with Courage,

Horace

  1. Endurance is a great word to carry through the year! And you have highlighted some wonderful verses. This is one of the most important themes from the beginning to the end of the Bible. Endurance in a hopeful spirit builds the strength we need to receive divine blessing. It’s more than just an interval of waiting. Thanks for these inspiring reflections.

    • Hey Lisa. Yes, Galatians 6:9 is tremendous. My best friend typed it up on a piece of paper and sent it to me years ago. I keep it tucked in my daily bible so I can read it regularly. Ministry can be challenging, frustrating, and even disappointing at times.BUT GOD. He is faithful. He continues to encourage my heart, enlighten my mind, and inspire my thoughts to continue sharing His truths. So, I WILL obey Him. Thanks for visiting sweet sister. Be well.

  5. Thank you for sharing your testimony and showing there is hope. We are overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. I pray that many people will be blessed as I am by the powerful words and scriptures. I ordered both books: Unleash the Power OF Prayer and The Furnace Of Affliction. Anybody looking for strength and answers in their suffering should read both of these books. So I ordered another set to give to someone else. Keep praying, writing and being obedient to God. God bless you.

  6. Horace I love the way you linked your word, “endurance” with courage and faith. Because both are required to endure! It is our faith that allows us to face the hard places of life and not give up and fall into deep despair. Job is a wonderful example of endurance. My Friend you already inspire us with your endurance! Sometimes we view our One Word journey as something we lack, or need to improve, but I believe God also gives us One Words which we already possess and display to strengthen and use us in the lives of others. Thank you for showing us how to keep the faith!
