Super Moms: Strong Smart and So Amazing!

I attempt to stick to a schedule  when it comes to writing and composing this blog.  However,it is so exciting when  something happens to me throughout my day and during that experience ideas for a post begin seeping into my head!  I want to share a short story with you about something that happened recently that imprinted on me the importance of super moms.

Me a Babysitter?

Two weeks ago my sister called me and wanted to know if  I would mind watching my nephew while she and his sister went over to my Mother’s house for a  quick little birthday party/prayer meeting.  I must admit, it did not take long for me to agree.  I reasoned to myself that he is 9 years old going on 10 in a few months and it’s only for a couple of hours.

She is dropping him off around 5pm.  So now I begin to wonder I need to cook something?  My wrist is in a brace and my options are limited.  I have been unable to get to the store for a few days.  Do I prepare my regular meal?  I hate to give my nephew chicken and broccoli!  Even though I love it; I want to be the “cool” uncle.  I can’t serve him that! I don’t even have any snacks here.  Now my head  begins to hurt just thinking about it.  What have I gotten myself into?

My sister texts me they’re on the way.  Now I’m more than a little anxious.  I want my nephew to enjoy his time here with me.  He is so smart, very talented, and, he loves his uncle Horace.   He has been praying for my left side to heal almost every night since my stroke.  I cannot disappoint him!  I open the door and my sister and my nephew come inside.  He looks at me and smiles the biggest smile like he just saw Santa.  My heart melts like hot butter on a stack of pancakes!  I really love my nephew!

Relief provided by a Super mom

Good news; my sister prepared something for him to eat that we can warm up and she even brought a  juice box for him too!  Hallelujah… I should have remembered that Super moms are usually prepared for anything!    I begin to relax a little then comes the unexpected news.   She mentions on her way out the door that she has not let him watch TV all day because she was sure that he would watch it tonight with Uncle Horace.  Uh-oh I thought this was only for a couple hours?

He asks to watch Power Rangers but I no longer have Netflix.  He begins to peruse through my DVD’s (He knows I love comic book heroes like batman) I get nervous again because I do not believe that my DVD player is even hooked up!  He’s clutching the animated Batman DVD (one of my favorites) as I nervously reach for the DVD player.   It is not hooked up!  I thought the cable guy had done that when he came out.  Oh well, I tell my nephew in a hushed voice that the DVD Player is not hooked up but he can take DVD home with him if he likes.  I am so disappointed but he says okay with a sweet smile.  He is such a good kid.

We decide to play 3D bowling on my tablet and I am trying to demonstrate it’s different from games on my phone.  While explaining, I end up scoring the best game I’ve ever played and beat him by hundred points. Ouch! This is not going like I’d hoped at all.  I’ll be lucky to babysit their “pet rock” the way this is going!  Then I remember the food!  I heat up the food his mother brought.  I need time to regroup.  I’m mentally drained and it’s only been an hour!

While he is eating,   I promise him if he eats everything his mother brought we can watch a Disney movie.  He hurriedly begins devouring his food.  Once he finishes, I put up on the TV screen all the available Disney movies.  I see the twinkle in his eye now!  There are so many to choose from.  He selects one he has not seen since He was younger and we begin to watch.  He’s laughing and I’m laughing.  This movie is actually pretty good!  He’s explaining what he remembers so I can understand.  I’m beginning to exhale. He is having a good time! Whew! What a relief!

After almost 6 hours, my sister arrives and apologizes.  She was trying to help clean up so that mom was not having to clean the kitchen on her birthday (super moms are always willing to help) I said no problem we had a great time! My nephew concurred.  She thanked me and joked I can now add babysitting to my resume.  I laughed as I locked the door and drag myself to the bed. I’m retiring from babysitting!

Where is My Super mom?

Not surprisingly, I sleep like a baby through the night.  No bathroom breaks needed.  I awake the next morning. As I have a good, long stretch I say a prayer, “Thank you God for a peaceful night of sleep and watching over me”.  I began looking for my clothes for my doctor appointment. Where are they?  To my surprise, I never took them out of the washer.  I put them in the dryer and headed into the kitchen to fix myself some breakfast.   I arrived into the kitchen only to see my sink was full of dishes!  How did that happen?  I hate going to bed with a dirty kitchen!  Then it HIT me…HOW IN THE WORLD DO MOMS DO THIS? I was so concerned about my nephew and watching over him last night that it got me off my normal routine. (Super Moms are pros at Multi-tasking!)

I smiled to myself as I washed the dishes and prepared my breakfast.  I was reminded about my mother who raised 5 kids at home and cried when I was fifteen and she realized she would have leave us kids at home and join the “work force”.  I thought about my sisters that are both at home with 3 and 4 kids respectfully.  I was remembering all the impressive moms I’ve met over the past several months that maintain a home, care for their children, while writing in their own blogs.  How do they watch over all those kids and maintain a home?  Answer:  they are Super Moms!

Super Mom

What makes a Super mom?

As I mentioned in my title a Super Mom is: Strong, Smart, and So Amazing!  They may not be quote unquote “physically”strong but there is an inner strength.  It is strength beyond measure that a mom carries deep inside.  They seem to be able to draw on it when needed most. When I say they are smart I am referring to their wisdom.  Whether it is from past mistakes or experience there is something about the way a mother shares her wisdom.   It is shared with compassion and understanding.  It is so comforting being exposed to wisdom bathed in love.

Source of the Super Moms Strength

As a mother reading this you might say I don’t feel that strong right now.  If that’s the case, I want remind you of two things.  First, you have a never ending source of strength.  In Isaiah 40:29 it says, “He gives strength to the weary and to him that lacks might He gives power.”  God will give you the strength needed for today.

Second, God will give you all the wisdom you need.  You just have to ask Him!  James 1:5But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given unto him.”  There is no shame in asking God for wisdom.  He wants us to come to Him

What makes the Super mom So Amazing?

Finally, the SO AMAZING thing about a Super Mom is they are chosen by God!  Regardless of the current circumstances, God has you right where He wants you.   He has blessed Super Moms with the ability to multi-task, organize, and plan ahead.  They have the God given desire to show unconditional compassion, adoration, and love.  There is a willingness to be an encouragement and to help when needed.

God has empowered you with His strength and wisdom to help you in achieving His will for your life and the lives of those around you!  I can say wholeheartedly that I would not be here right now if not for the Super moms that God has placed in my life. Thank you for your love and support.

To all the Super moms out there, God is aware of everything you do for those around you. Whether they say it or not, they appreciate you.  As I was reminded the other day, families would be lost without their Super moms.  I hope you take a moment and tell a Super mom in your life just how much you appreciate them.   I pray the Super moms are encouraged and may God richly bless you in all that you do!
