Music Memories in the Mind of my Wonderful Father

Dad-United States Army CaptainMy father is a wonderful man!  I am blessed to be his first born son and his namesake.  I have not written specifically  about him here on my site even though it was intended in the parent references I’ve made on several occasions.  My father and I have a very unique relationship but as I have grown older and wiser, my desire is to live like He lives in representing Jesus Christ.

Today I want to share with you some highlights so you can know him a little better and then I will  convey how music has impacted my father’s life and continues to do so today.  Growing up as a child, I can remember my father and his love for classical music.  I did not really understand it at that time and I can remember thinking where are the words?  How can you listen to music with no words?  Two of his favorite composers were Beethoven and Tchaikaovsky.Father's Day Post-Music Memories in the Mind of my Father

Now I Understand!

I admit as I got older I began to understand his affinity for classical music. In fact, I am listening to one of my favorites (Tchaikovsky) right now as I type this.  He composed so many great pieces of music from the Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and my favorite, his Piano Concerto No. 1.

As a former piano player myself, I can only dream to have played like this but I digress!  Now back to my father.  Here are some highlights to give you a “peek” into just who he is.  In addition, I will share so much more about my father including the battle he is currently fighting, and the reason for the video below over at my friend Linda’s site: Being Woven.  You can learn about my father here at

Blessings to you and yours,

What a gift this tribute is. I pray your mom gets to read it because I know it would bring such a sense of joy to her heart to know your love and respect for your father. There is something about seeing it in words for the world to see! I will be in prayer for your father, mother, you, and your family. Alzheimer’s is a such an awful disease. I watched my grandfather battle it for years and it broke my heart. I do know they have made many advances. I will be praying that those advances help keep the disease at bay. Thank you for these precious words of hope. It is a reminder to love those God has given us. Cherish the moments, enjoying each one fully. Your love for your father is an encouragement and testimony! I’m always so honored to have you sharing hope with me at Moments of Hope, my friend!
Blessings and smiles,

Thank you Lori for your kind words of encouragement. Yes, my mom has read this. In fact she is my proofreader on all my posts. She really enjoyed it but did not grasp the the whole guest posting thing;) She asked, “why do I have to click over to someone else’s site?” My baby sister asked if I was trying to make her cry. I told her I was emotional as I finished this post but I am glad I was asked to share about my father. Yes its true the disease is AWFUL and he continues to regress. It becomes scary as you do not recognize the husband, father, and brother that he used to be. I have comfort that the Lord will restore his mind one day and we can listen to music together in Heaven. Thank you so much for your prayers they are very much appreciated. I’m pleased to read this post was an encouragement and I thank Linda for asking me to share. Thank you for allowing me to participate in Moments of Hope. You are really doing something beautiful there. Have a wonderful weekend and blessings to you and yours my friend!

Thank you Lisa! I agree; I understand now that it has been such a blessing to have been raised by my father. He loves Jesus with all His heart. I pray that he is not in pain as he suffers through the Alzheimer’s and that music gives him some peace. Thank you again for visiting today. Have a wonderful week and God bless!

Thanks Marva! He is my real-life hero. I have realized that as I grew older. He is the most brilliant, selfless, and compassionate man I know. I have been blessed by him in so many ways! Blessings

Thank you Lori for the opportunity to share. This post has special meaning. I just visited with my father today and I was startled by how much he has deteriorated since I last saw him. I’m not sure if he even recognized the hymn on the post as I played it for him today? It is a hard disease to understand but I lift him up to God along will the rest of my family. Thank you for your encouragement friend. Have a blessed rest of your weekend!

My dad was a “golden oldies” type of guy. Dion, Del Shannon, that type of thing. There are certain songs that I will still stop on if I hear them on the radio, partly because they remind me of him #shine

Thanks for visiting Jeremy. I’m thankful that God gives my father a little peace of mind from the Alzheimer’s when He’s able to listen to some of his favorite classical and Christian songs. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and may God bless you and yours in all your endeavors!

When my father came home from work, he always put on classical music. He would load three or four records on the stereo, and we’d listen to them for months before he changed them. He went through phases: music from the great ballets, opera, and his favorite, band marches. I always associate him with classical music!

Yes, I love how some classical music makes me feel . I am a lover of music and I have an appreciation for classical music. There is something about hearing the orchestra and the emotions that are stirred up! Sounds like you have some great memories about your father too Ginger. Thanks again for visiting here today. I hope you have a fabulous Friday! May God continue to richly bless you and yours!

Horace, this is beautiful. Your relationship with your father was the longing of my heart when I was a little girl, big girl, young woman, and still today. You are so, so blessed to have him, in any capacity, for God will make us fully healed and complete in the end. Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease, but He will defeat that, too! Praying for you and your family, my friend.

Thanks Lillian for the visit. i’m glad you enjoyed this post. It has a special meaning to me. I am saddened that my father is suffering through this and it hurts me more that he may not know that I am living my life for Christ now. I gave him such grief as a teenager but I am thankful for his love and support. So sorry to hear about your mother going through this. I would not wish this horrific disease on anybody and their loved ones. I know that God allows all things to happen for a reason so I will trust Him and continue in prayer for my dad and my mother. Thanks again for the visit and your kind words. Have a wonderful weekend and may God richly bless you and yours!

Thank you for the opportunity to share about my father Linda. I pray those who read it are blessed and encouraged. Writing post reminded me just how much I love my father and what a blessing he is to me. I thank my Heavenly Father for allowing me to be his son. Have a fantastic weekend my friend and blessings to you and yours!

What a cool way to pay tribute to your father! Isn’t it funny how we seem to understand our parents more and more the older we get? Wisdom is one of life’s great mysteries…
Happy Thursday!
