Don’t Worry About Tomorrow. Focus on Today; God’s Got You!

Tomorrow. What do you think about tomorrow? Why do you think about tomorrow today? Are you aware that there is no promise of tomorrow for any of us? I know that I have mentioned several times my propensity to be a “serial planner,” which, unfortunately, has me focusing on the tomorrow’s of several days, weeks, and sometimes even months ahead.Don't Worry About Tomorrow. Focus on Today; God's Got You!

Don’t get me wrong; there is nothing wrong with making plans for your tomorrows. However, when you begin to obsess over said plans, that can lead to worry and anxiety, which does you no good.

We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps. Proverbs 16:9. (NLT)

Troubles of Tomorrow

God rescued the Israelites from the bondage of the Egyptians after four hundred years of slavery. We have all heard of and read about and maybe even seen Charlton Heston playing Moses and watched the Red Sea parted as the children of Israel were delivered from a chariot-charging army of Egyptians.

Now stranded in a wilderness, what would they do for food? But God. He provided “manna” from heaven every morning for the Israelites to gather up for food. Of course, God required them when gathering up the food only to gather enough for that day. Any extra collected would end up spoiled and was not fit to eat.

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you. Each day the people can go out and pick up as much food as they need for that day. I will test them in this to see whether or not they will follow My instructions. On the sixth day they will gather food, and when they prepare it, there will be twice as much as usual.” (NLT)

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today. Matthew 6:33-34. (NLT)

Peace About Tomorrow

After recommitting my life to Christ on September 9, 2012, I was determined to learn as much as I could about God’s divine purpose for my life. I could not get enough of reading or studying His Word. I thoroughly loved learning new things and being reminded of things I had long forgotten.

Furthermore, I was equally excited about hiding His Word in my heart through memorization. It was a twofold benefit: having His Word at the ready and improving my brain function. These verses in Matthew six rings loudly for me. Not only the worrying about tomorrow but the importance of SEEKING GOD FIRST every day.

Is it just me, but does the enemy seem to bring everything and anything to mind during those moments when you settle down to spend quality time with God? Distractions, disturbances, interruptions, etc. Satan will do everything in his power to rob us of quality time with our Lord and disrupt our peace. So, what can we do to combat these attacks? Here are two encouraging and comforting verses of scripture that will help—one from the Old Testament and one from the New.Don't Worry About Tomorrow. Focus on Today; God's Got You!

You will keep in perfect peace ALL who TRUST in YOU, all whose thoughts are FIXED on YOU! Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)

Don’t worry about anything; instead, PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING. Tell God what you need, and THANK Him for ALL He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. (NLT)Pray About Everything!

Any questions on how to experience God’s peace? (Focus on the words I capitalized from in the verses above .’)

You Matter to God

So, you may be asking yourself, why am I sharing this post at the beginning of a New Year? That’s an easy one, PERSPECTIVE. At the beginning of a New Year, everyone focuses on new goals, plans, and in my case, seeking a word from God. You can read about my word from God for 2022 here.

With that backdrop, I want to encourage you to take a deep breath and not live anxiously worrying about tomorrow. You may be feeling anxious about your word for the New Year, or maybe your goals and objectives seem too enormous for you even to attempt to climb.

Those feelings of worrying and anxiety are from Satan. God cares so much for His children, more than we can imagine. He wants what is best for you and me. So, don’t let feelings of insignificance or irrelevance put you in a corner. YOU MATTER TO GOD. Please don’t take my word for it; read what Jesus said!

That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life; whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you more valuable to Him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? Matthew 6:25-27. (NLT)You Matter to God!

Don’t Worry; Have Faith

I know casting your cares may be easier said than done. But it is a learning process. You have to get in the habit of repeatedly putting your worries of the day on the altar. Speaking from experience, I cannot put a worry or concern up there and leave it. I have to repeat the process and leave everything in God’s hands. This practice is not a “set it and forget it” kind of thing. Doing this keeps our lines of communication with God open throughout the day.

Don’t turn a worry or concern over to God and then figure out a way to do things in your strength. Give whatever it is to God, lift it upon His throne of grace and leave it there. (You may have to return and repeat. It can be hard to surrender our worries to Him.) Remember those earlier scriptures? Trust Him and Pray about everything. Do that, and you will accomplish his plan for your life in 2022 and beyond!

In the final analysis, God’s got you as you embark on a new year. Don’t spend too much time living in yesterday’s sins or successes. Let the worries of tomorrow be dealt with tomorrow. Instead, live in the moment of today, and give all praise, honor, and glory to God.

For faith to increase requires our consistency, endurance, and watchfulness. We must continue to stand firm in what we believe. When we do, God will provide the strength and hope to carry on. Therefore persevere in believing what He says to you. Obey and endure because you will certainly see the fulfillment of His promises. -Dr. Charles F. Stanley, Growing in Our Faith.
