Opportunities. What comes to mind when you hear or read that word? Do you get excited or worry about what could go wrong? Hopefully, as you read this post, I can help you become excited about the opportunities you will encounter in 2023.
First, I understand your reluctance to get excited about the unknown path you will walk this year. Some may say that the year’s first month has already been filled with unexpected challenges and difficulties.
Another reason we can be hesitant to embrace the opportunities of a New Year is that uncertainty abounds! If you are like me, you want answers! You want to know the ins and outs of everything. However, this is what makes God’s opportunities great. He loves us beyond comprehension! He wants what is BEST for us, and most importantly, He has ALL the answers!
So, what do you think? I don’t know about you, but I am ready to experience miracles in my life! There is nothing better than to see God at work in your opportunities. He is the all-powerful, all-knowing God. He wants to work in your life and use you to glorify Him. Click To Tweet
Opportunities may Vary
Like Elijah standing alone in a cave, hearing God’s still, small voice, your opportunities are personal. It may not be a dramatic scene for everyone to see, like fire coming down from heaven on Mount Carmel. No, usually, God presents His opportunities for you in those peaceful moments of rest as you lay your head on His bosom. It’s been a gentle whisper when God inspires me to write a blog post, record a podcast, or give me the title of a new book.
Do you know what you have to do to hear a gentle whisper? Lean in closer to the person speaking. Are you leaning into God as this New Year begins in earnest? Are you seeking His will as the days quickly tick off the calendar? Have you asked Him what He wants you to accomplish this year?
We remember before our God and Father your work produced by FAITH, your labor prompted by LOVE and your ENDURANCE inspired by HOPE in our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 1:3.
As some of you may know, endurance was my “word” for 2022, and boy, was it a doozy! I embraced the word for the first three-fourths of the year and fell apart emotionally. I took my eyes off Jesus and began to worry and wonder; my mind overflowed with “what ifs?” and “what nows?”
With that being said, I’m not going to lie; by the time December arrived, I was afraid to seek the Lord for a word for 2023!
My Word for 2023 is?
TRUST. God was watching me closely. I chuckled to myself on the day God made this “word” known to me only a few weeks ago. I was like, “Okay, Lord, I hear You.” It wasn’t a bolt of lighting, but in His still, small voice, God reminded me that He wants me to TRUST HIM. Here is my scripture verse for the New Year.
Of course, this is not the version of this tremendous promise I memorized as a child. (Thank you, King James version.) However, I want to use this version to encourage and remind you how to embrace best the opportunities God has for you this year.
A few things to remember and put into practice: Trust God with ALL your heart. Don’t rely on only what you can see. Seek God’s will in everything you do.
Think of it like this, when you are putting a jigsaw puzzle together, you attach all the corners and edges, hoping to get an idea of the image. However, God ALREADY knows what the complete image is. In fact, He created the materials for the cardboard and wood that the puzzle pieces are made of! He wants you to trust Him too.
Whatever the LORD pleases , He does, in heaven and in the earth, in the seas and in all the deeps. He causes vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; who makes lightnings for the rain… Psalm 135: 6-7.
The opportunities in 2023 won’t happen by “chance.” It’s not a “coincidence.” A sovereign God ordains everything that happens to you and for you. He’s the Creator of heaven and earth. A God who spins the world on its axis perfectly every second of every day. How can you not get excited to see His plans for you?
So I encourage you to embrace what lies ahead for you in 2023. You may not have the answers or plans laid out perfectly. However, if you belong to Jesus, He’s got you! He has you right where He wants you and Is ready to give you a future and hope. (Jer. 29:11)
In closing, let me say that despite my impending kidney surgery at the end of February, I am excited about 2023 and the plans that God has given me thus far. I’m not sure how everything will go, but I trust Him. Stay tuned for an announcement in the coming weeks. I am so excited! I pray that you will be too. Embrace your opportunities, friend. Trust God’s plan.
